About Dr. JES

Dr. Eickhoff-Shemek, Ph.D., FACSM, FAWHP, is best known as an educator, author, speaker, program developer, and manager. For the first 20 years of her 40-year career, she created and managed all types of health/fitness programs for both general and special populations in community, clinical, and corporate settings. As a program developer/manager, her #1 goal and responsibility was to always provide safe and effective programs for participants.

 

Over the past 20 years as an academician, she developed and coordinated two programs: (1) master's degree in Fitness and Wellness Management at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNOmaha), and (2) bachelor's degree in Exercise Science at the University of South Florida (USF). Nominated by students, she received outstanding teaching awards at both UNOmaha and USF.

 

 

 

Legal & Risk Management Expertise

Over the past 25 years, Dr. Eickhoff-Shemek's legal and risk management experiences and accomplishments have included:

 

1) Lead textbook author of a comprehensive, ground-breaking textbook entitled: Risk Management for Health/Fitness Professionals: Legal Issues and Strategies published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in 2009.

 

2) Author or co-author of over 60 articles published in refereed journals and author of 9 book chapter all related to legal issues and risk management.

 

3) Presenter/Speaker at numerous conferences, seminar, and workshops on a variety of topics related to legal issues, risk management, and fitness safety.
